Clamp is a utility DCTL from MonoNodes designed to control RGB values that extend outside the standard image range in DaVinci Resolve Studio. It is particularly useful when negative or extended RGB values interact with HSV and other color models, where they can produce unexpected artifacts such as bright, white, or colored pixels in dark areas.

The tool allows colorists to define minimum and maximum limits for RGB values and selectively clamp the black and white points. This provides a simple way to prevent problematic out-of-range values before they reach nodes or transformations that may interpret them incorrectly.

HOW IT WORKS

• Values below the selected minimum can be clamped to the minimum
• Values above the selected maximum can be clamped to the maximum
• With the standard 0–1 range, values below 0 become 0 and values above 1 become 1

IMPORTANT

DaVinci Resolve uses a 32-bit floating-point image pipeline that can preserve values below 0 and above 1. Clamping permanently removes values outside the selected range, so Clamp should be positioned carefully in the node tree to avoid unnecessary loss of recoverable shadow or highlight information.
